Bouncy Castles at Eastrington Village Hall
We are happy to accommodate bouncy castles at children’s parties, subject to prior written approval and the insurance requirements set out below.
Our charity’s insurance does not cover bouncy castles brought into the hall by hirers or other third parties. It is therefore essential that appropriate liability insurance is in place for both:
the supply, condition and erection of the bouncy castle; and
the supervision of the bouncy castle while it is being used.
These are separate responsibilities and may require separate insurance cover.
Insurance for the bouncy castle supplier
The company supplying the bouncy castle must have current liability insurance covering the equipment and its work, including:
the condition, maintenance and upkeep of the bouncy castle;
delivery and erection of the bouncy castle; and
claims arising from a defect in the equipment or negligent installation.
The hirer must provide us with a copy of the supplier’s insurance evidence. It must be valid on the date of the event and relate to the company actually supplying and erecting the bouncy castle.
Insurance for the person supervising the bouncy castle
The bouncy castle must be supervised at all times while it is in use.
The person or organisation responsible for supervision must have appropriate liability insurance covering claims arising from negligent supervision. This could include, for example, an injury caused by:
allowing too many children onto the bouncy castle at the same time;
failing to follow the supplier’s age, size or capacity restrictions;
allowing rough or unsafe play; or
leaving the bouncy castle unsupervised while it is in use.
Insurance covering only the bouncy castle, its delivery or its erection is not sufficient to cover supervision.
Supervision cover may be available through:
a one-off event insurance policy;
an organisation’s existing public liability insurance; or
in some cases, the supervisor’s home insurance.
Home insurance must not be assumed to provide this cover. The policyholder must contact their insurer and obtain written confirmation that the policy covers their supervision of a hired bouncy castle at the hall.
Where the bouncy castle supplier is also providing an attendant or supervisor, the hirer must obtain written confirmation that the supplier’s insurance covers supervision as well as the equipment and its erection.
What you must provide before the event
At least 28 days before your booking, please send the following to Eastringtonvh@gmail.com:
the name and contact details of the bouncy castle supplier;
evidence of the supplier’s current liability insurance covering the equipment and its erection;
the name of the person or organisation that will supervise the bouncy castle; and
evidence that the supervisor has liability insurance specifically covering supervision of the bouncy castle.
The insurance evidence should show:
the name of the insured person or organisation;
the name of the insurer;
the policy period, including the date of your event; and
confirmation that the relevant activity is covered.
Please tell us immediately if the supplier or supervisor changes. Updated insurance evidence will be required before the bouncy castle may be used.
Requirements during the event
The hirer must ensure that:
a responsible adult supervisor is present whenever the bouncy castle is in use;
the supervisor follows all instructions and restrictions provided by the supplier;
the permitted number, age and size of users are observed;
overcrowding, rough play and other unsafe behaviour are prevented; and
the bouncy castle is not used at any time when a suitable insured supervisor is not present.
Unless expressly agreed with us in writing, supervision is not provided by the hall, its trustees, volunteers or staff.
What happens if insurance evidence is not provided?
Where satisfactory insurance evidence has not been received, the bouncy castle must not be brought into or used at the hall.
We reserve the right to:
refuse permission for the bouncy castle;
prevent it from being used;
require it to be deflated; or
require it to be removed from the premises.
The hall booking may still continue without the bouncy castle.
A disclaimer, waiver or written statement accepting responsibility is not a substitute for appropriate insurance.
These requirements are necessary because our charity’s insurance does not cover third-party bouncy castles. Without suitable insurance for both the equipment and its supervision, the charity could be exposed to an uninsured claim.
Please obtain written approval from Eastrington Village Hall before making any non-refundable arrangements with a bouncy castle supplier.
Single event Bouncy Castle piblic liability insurance is available from any the following companies.
